For those of you who are behind on Credit Card payments or who are going to be, here is some advice. Call the company and "update" your information, giving them a new phone number. Get a pager or voice mail for very cheap, which really does have you answering and give them that. Make SURE (ask the person on the other end to verify this) that your original number is REPLACED by the new one. Remember that this person is working for basically minimum wage and will do whatever you tell them if you sound like you have a couple of brain cells that work. (obviously this will not work if you are so far behind that they are turning it over to collections, or they will see right through this, HOWEVER....)

If you are already being hounded then just CHANGE your number and have it forwarded to the pager or voice mail and then give your friends and relatives your new number (tell then you were tired of all the sales pitches, which is exactly what collectors are giving you when they call).

Most of all do NOT EVER keep them from having any valid phone number on you on file. I learned this the hard way when a fourth-rate, toupee-wearin' empty-threat makin' typo-riddled-letter sendin' so-called collector called me from the basement of his mother's house where he probably lives since he can't pay his own rent -- called MY relatives looking for me.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

HM

P.S. Send them a letter requesting them to send everything to you in WRITING and that it is a misdemeanor in your state for them to continue calling you after you have requested communication in writing and that you document all calls and will report him to both your and his state's attorney generals' offices.
