soon to be x has ruined my credit

Have lived in Mexico the past two years opening a business. Soon to be X and I are partners in a business in the states. During the time I was gone, he almost maxed out all the credit cards and didn't make house payments. House almost got reposessed before he sold it and I lost over $100,000.00 (my money was used for down payment). Credit cards have been charged off, 2 are at $16,000.00. I just recently found out about this. Is there anyway to protect myself since I didn't charge on the cards??
