dicover reneged and sold to 3rd party collection question

I found out who discover sold my acc't to after they reneged on the hardship program I was supposed to be under for 1 year. When they called yesterday, the guy identified himself as a 3rd part collection agency. He asked if I could do a settlement. I said no. He then asked if I could pay at least $200 for now. I said no. Why is he asking me to pay $200 now when my $118.00 wasn't good enough for Discover? Would it even be applied to the account like it should be? I told him if Discover wants to take me to court I have all my paperwork stating they reneged, so they are in default not me! And basically hung up..
Do you think I have a good defense? This whole thing gets me down. I am trying my hardest to pay back the debts I can. So far I have 2 paid off, 2open accounts still.
