That's what I did. I determined what I could pay and by golly I DO pay it. I went for over a year 'negotiating' those high dollar terms and almost lost the house and car in the process. So now I pay exactly what I stated evry month on time. I explained this to the nice Credit Card (OC) collector one time and one time only then told them there was nothing else to discuss. Some threatened lawsuits, I told them OK, I 'll bring my payment records. BTY hire an attorney in state as you are not admitted to the bar here. The final step was to get a phone the ringer can be turned off on. They still call occasionally, I don't answer - I'm paying all I can and talking about it everyday (amsouth called 16 times in one day!)is not going to change my income. I DO pay as i promised and no one is going to court. NOW; if they put it to charge off and to a CA and NOT the OC - like CACV - the money stops and get rerouted to an OC. Not the best, not what I originally intended BUT, I'm not late on the house or the car, I'm not in danger of getting the utilities cut off and I am paying the best I can and can prove it. Remeber things like the dentist and unexpected things come up - don't do like me and rob Peter to pay Paul to try to get out of debt - that's how we all got here. The point is that it was time for me to grow up, get honest and realistic. I set my priorites and live within my means - period. That means doing exactly what you suggest, get honest and pay the best you can. If they really balk, get real honest and look at BK.
