Is setting up delayed settlement payments realistic ?

If you explain your situation and are REASONABLE with attorneys for original creditor do they always want immediate lump sum or can you tell them that you have no money now but are going to be able to start paying them, in, say, 6-8 months?

And if you threaten bankruptcy and show them that you have no assets, why would they even attempt to try to get a judgment if you can just declare BK and they get nothing?
