In 1999, my husband got a cross country bank credit card to "help" with his credit after paying off several debts. We used it maybe twice for things we planned on paying immediately, they added their one-time fees causing him to exceed his limit and it just began adding more and more fees. It wound up being a total over $1100, by the time all was said and done. We recently received a letter from Midland Credit Agency saying they will settle this account with Cross Country for $500. I have seen that it is not wise to settle; However we are desperately trying to clean up our credit!! Does it help at all for it to be paid off even after all this time? We live in Missouri. One more question~ Does the SOL times start all over when the debt is taken over by the other agency? They are both still on his credit and we are lost as to how to solve this issue and begin cleaning up our credit?
