I will repeat, there is a lot of psychology used in debt collection. Sounds like this account has been either assigned or sold to CA, CA attorney. CAs and their attorney's lie and make a lot of threats. Paying this loan at this point is going to do absolutely nothing good for you daughter. Unless your daughter has assets that they know about, they probably will not do more than make threats in order to get her to pay. She has the option of bankrupcy if they do sue. Are these attorneys in California? If not, they can't sue. There is just one thing I would tell you. Tell your daughter to protect her banking info. If she ever paid the debt with current checking account, close the account and change banks. This is probably not the case since she moved back to Calif. When a debt is this old, it is handled by the lowest of the low. Let me see if some of the others can be more helpful. Try to ride out the SOL.
