paid collection vs unpaid question

i do not understand why a paid collection is as bad as a unpaid one on a credit report. makes no sense..it shows you pay your bills..(eventually, shows u keep ur committments)..and that makes no sense to me why a paid one is bad. anyone clear this up for me? thank you in advance.
