What does Opt Out Mean?, etc.

Hi. I just got a copy of my credit report and am trying to see if I can clean some of it up. I have seen people on this board recommending to "Opt Out" and remove old addresses. What is that and how do I do that? It shows my ex-husband's address where I used to live. Can I remove that?

Also there are a few accounts that are shown as "charged off" or "sold to another company" that we have settled; however, not with the original creditor but with the company they sold the accounts to. Is there a way to get it to show that these accounts were settled or am I stuck with it just showing "charged off"?
