Depending on your state, they have to wait out the time for you to either file an appeal (actually a notice of appeal) or file for a new trial. Usually that time frame is 30 days.

They have to go to court a file a motion for garnishment- either continuing or one time. That paper has to go to your employer and then you are supposed to be notified so you can file to ask the court not to garnish.

If your wages are exempt- ex in Florida head of household or work for the state of Florida, file that with the court immediately after a judgment is obtained. ALso file your exemptions.
