are you on chexs for outstanding checks, those you paid, that are just reproting as being sent to them, or for leaving a balance with an old checking acct?

IF you have settled accts (ie you paid the checks OR the old accts and they are just reporting) MOST banks will open an acct with you IF you have proof from each bank on chex that you have satisfied any obligations to them. When I had to move banks 6 months ago, due to my bank closing - I went to 5 different banks and only one wouldn't let me open an acct - that was one I had formerly had a obligation with. They were willing to write me a letter on offical letterhead stating I was free and clear with them - I just had to go through the extra hassle of getting on other letter and I was ok. Yes its mildly embarassing, but having a choice is great and my current bank doesn't treat me like I am goign to be a bad customer.

Just some thoughts....
