bankruptcy vs. refinancing

My husband and I went to a lawyer to dicuss filing bankruptcy. Out lawyer suggested that we try to refinance our home because 1) the amount of money we were behind was borderline claiming bankruptcy (only $10,000) and the equity in our home was more than #30,000. (We live in Illinois. We can have $15,000.00
each in equity.
We checked on lending tree.com and Prime Finance Co in Mass. responded with an offer. My question is has anyone delt with this Co and had any problems?? any Help would be appreciated.
