They won't waste postage on an "intent" letter. They will only sue you if they think you have assets to attach. Like George says, if they sue outside of SOL you'll win, but first, if you have any definite FDCPA violations, counterclaim for them, because they just committed them and the one-year SOL isn't up on THAT, hee hee!
