Yes, that's correct. Just like it says, "Attorney placement pending..." sounds a bit scarier than "collection agency pending", but it's basically the same thing. The only difference is that the attorney will probably be able to sue directly instead of a collection agency referring it to an attorney. Discover I think always goes directly to an attorney (I have a charged-off Discover card too). My card charged off in Aug 2003 and so far I've just received the standard boiler plate letters from the attorney, but my credit report looks pretty bad right now, LOL.

What state do you live in? If you live in a wage garnishment state like California, and the credit report shows that your wife's employer, then there is a higher likelihood that they'll sue than if they don't know that. I'm just talking in the general sense here. Sometimes it's a bit unpredictable what really will happen.
