I live in California and am $9752 in debt. About $2000 to five different credit card companies that I haven't paid for two years. I got a 3 in 1 credit report from Truecredit.com. It shows all accounts as charge offs. A summons was served to my grandmother in Oklahoma--at an address where I haven't lived for several years. She has lawyer to tell them I'm not there, but they will find me soon. (this is ony concerning one account--I'm not sure which and I think Eskanos & Adler is behind it because I saw an inquiry by them on my report.)
I contacted a Credit Counseling Service and they say they can settle with all including lawsuit for about $5000 plus a fee of about $750. Or they can put me on payment plan of $250-$300/mo. Is this a good deal? It is Springboard Non-profit Consumer Credit Management that I found on DebtAdvice.org. Can I trust them? Will this help or hurt my credit? Would I be better off trying to handle myself? If so, any advice on how?
