Card Balance transfers to someone else's card

Hi!
I'm trying to buy a house, but I have a credit card with a high balance. My mother-in-law suggested that I transfer the balance to one of her cards to get rid of the debt in my name.
Has anyone ever done this? Can you do it? What effect does it have on your credit rating? Thanks.
