I know something about mental illness. Bipolar? Manic episode. I don't think it is a defense in court, but I do think that if you really do suffer from serious mental illness, you will be on disability and have very few assets. Unless, of course, you are married and your hubby has assets. People that suffer from true mental illness are not able to function normally, creditors MIGHT understand that and just move on. If you think you can go into court and tell the judge that you are mentally ill and he will dismiss the case. Nope. I seriously doubt it.
