Depending on state law, personal service is NOT the only valid service. In most states the progression is something like this: 1 - personal service, 2 - service via certified mail, 3 - service by FIRST CLASS mail, and lastly, service by publication.

So, the service by 1st class mail may be perfectly valid, CHECK STATE LAWS !
