From what I can tell, Virginia's system does not allow you to file an answer or anything like that. It appears that all I can do is show up in court.

Looking at the courthouse website, it appears that I'd be one in a long string of defendants with Asset Acceptance as the plaintiff.

All I want out of this is to be finally left alone by Asset. Would it suffice to bring copies of credit reports showing that the debt is SOL, and present those to the judge?

If I get a lawyer, how much can I expect that to cost (on average)? Would I absolutely HAVE to file a countersuit in order to recover my attorney's fees?
