Yes, Bi-Polar is a chemical imbalancem, or more precisely, a chemical deficiency in the brain. In many patients diagnosed with the condition you find reports of systematic abuse at hands of parents, siblings, others, all seen as exacerbating the condition. Hope this clarifies. And yes, disability is difficult though not impossible to obtain. Using, as mentioned, the team of psychiatrist and neuropsychologist to speak to their respective areas of expertise can often carry the day.
