Do you own a home and/or have lots of assets? I'm not sure if it is wise to file for BK over $3,000. This is going to sound like a long shot, but I would BORROW the money from relatives if you possibly can and pay them off unless you are past 3 years delinquent. A bankruptcy opens a can of worms and if this is your ONLY debt problem then borrow the money. If you have a lot of credit cards getting behind then yes, BK might be a good option for a new start.
