Hello from California, I received a CA letter citing 30 days to respond to its validity. This company purchased the account from another CA. They left 3 phone messages to return a call regarding "personal business." I didn't respond. Then sent the letter to my PO Box (regular mail) addressed to my former married name. I haven't responded to that either. I believe the account (in my former married name) was charged off in 1988. The account was in my name but misused by my husband. As a result, when we divorced the judge decreed that the bill was to be split evenly. Hasn't the SOL passed by now? I bought a house in 2001 and refinanced in 2003, neither of which transactions showed any record of the aforementioned debt. I assumed it was long gone. I'm clueless what to do. Please advise and thank you.
