Most attorneys will give you the first consult free, so there's nothing keeping you from finding out exactly what you might lose if you file chapter 7. Call several, and meet with them all. Then you can decide if bk is the way to go for you. IMO, you can't afford *not* to hire a good experienced attorney who knows what is acceptable in your district if you do decide to file.
