They're fishing. Even if they give you a settled letter, they will sell the balance to someone else with a note saying "here's a sucker that pays up". You can't get a letter to say they will not sell as I read that was restraint of trade or something. If you don't talk to them they can't torture you. If they really have charged $2000 in interest I am sure they have broken some states ursury law.
