In your answer, file a counterclaim for that, and if you get a lawyer to represent you, damages and attorney fees may make a significant dent in what they're trying to collect. But well, maybe you CAN try to get it dismissed for lack of CA licensure. There's a saying, the argument that doesn't convince ME, still might convince the judge! Try it, or better yet, get a lawyer who'll take these FDCPA cases. Steep NY hourly fees may begin to discourage bad CAs from operating there.
