Won't get dismissed for unlicensed CA but

Ignoring state licensing requirements seems to me to violate FDCPA and probably NY state debt collection law. In your answer, file a counterclaim for that, and if you get a lawyer to represent you, damages and attorney fees may make a significant dent in what they're trying to collect. Also report them to the state regulators.

But well, maybe you CAN try to get it dismissed for lack of CA licensure. There's a saying, the argument that doesn't convince ME, still might convince the judge! Try it, or better yet, get a lawyer who'll take these FDCPA cases. Steep NY hourly fees may begin to discourage bad CAs from operating there.
