Security is not the issue. Security is as good as with any credit card. The difference is the protection afforded by a CC (non-debit) in case of dispute.

If you use a CC, you can dispute a charge and by law have the right *not* to pay the disputed charge on your bill. You don't have that sort of protection with a debit card because the charge has already been paid and debited from your bank account.
