Whereever you got that, its not quite right. You can demand validation of the debt at ANY time, not just that first 30 days in the letters. Once you do that, they must cease any and ALL collection activity until they provide proper validation, and a copy of ONE bill is NOT proper validation to prove the alleged amount owed. They've got to cough up the ENTIRE account history to prove the alleged amount AND they have to produce a copy of your signature on a cc agreement.

Doesn't matter whether you BELIEVE you don't owe the money or not, telling a CA that will only get you laughed at because they don't care. If you don't owe it, MAKE them validate - ALL THE WAY !
