Bk stays on your record for 10 years. Other damage is there for 7. However, paying off your credit cards does not seem to help your credit score.

I have not declared bk, however I know several people who have- most found it to be a liberating experience. Free of debt, they were able to start over again and rebuild their lives and financial stablity.

I'm sure there will be others who have personal experience who can give you the benefit of their experiences.

Not sure here, but most people who do chapter 7 have more debts than assets, and can not pay them off.
