It would help tremendously for all involved in trying to help you if your story wouldn't change every other post. Each time someone answers one of your questions, you add another twist and/or embellishment to the tale. You say that you were sued in Supreme Court in NY, which only has jursidiction over cases for $25,000+, but you only have $10,000 in debt. You say that you can afford to pay, but you don't have a job. Now you've suddenly mentioned SSI and medical bills for the first time.

I understand that you are confused and in a panic, but you need *legal* help from an attorney. Giving people on this forum bits and pieces of information, then expecting them to give you the answers you want to hear, is only delaying the inevitable. You've already been sued and you've already filed an appearance, so you've only got three options: Pay the CA, fight it out in court or file bankruptcy. Sooner or later you will be in court, from the looks of things, ready or not.

This is a *great* forum, but it's no substitute for an attorney. If you can't figure out how to represent yourself from Why Chat's program or the help you've already received from the posters on the forum, you need to find an attorney to represent you. And if you're on SSI, as you say, that should be NO PROBLEM for you. There's not a legal aid program in the country that would turn you away.
