REPOST - Can a CA still remain on your CR if you pay the OC???

Greetings. I have a question... If you pay the original creditor on a collection account can the collection agency still report to your credit report even if you never paid a cent to the CA and there was no "contractual obligation" to pay the collection agency as the debt was assigned not purchased?? If so, how do you go about removing them if the CA reports to the bureaus "paid".... Thanks Credit505
