Of course you will get conflicting advise, CA trolls not withstanding. Law is very complex and very relative to where you are, with whom you're dealing and with your particular circumstances. A couple of paragraphs hardly conveys enough information about your situation for anyone to come up with a hard-and-fast rule of thumb, and it isn't *wise* to post really personal information on a public forum like this, anyway.

If you're looking for accuracy and accountability, you have to hire an attorney who *must* represent you to the best of his/her ability and entrust such information with that person.

But even then, the ultimate decision is up to you. It seems that you have decided on a course of action and are prepared to face the consequences, or reap the benefits, whatever they may be. If this forum enables you to get the information you need to make an informed decision, then it has fulfilled its purpose.

Of course, you have to separate the wheat from the chaff. But that is true of any advise you get anywhere. Even Abigail van Buren took a wrong turn here and there. :-)
