There are any number of companies that specialize in asset searches for a fee. They use your name and SSN to find bank account information. The CA pays for this service. You can also be compelled by the court to reveal assets during a process called "discovery," so even if they can't find it through an asset search you may have to tell them anyway. What you *can* do is open an account with someone else as primary (listed first) just to keep them from easily finding it and getting an order to freeze your account while the court proceedings are in process.

Since you are still within the statute of limitations and the CA is still within its rights to sue you and recover, your best bet is to hire an attorney to assist you with the lawsuit. You *have* to answer the lawsuit, or they'll get everything they asked for.

If they can prove its your account, but the signed agreement doesn't include attorney's fees, you may not have to pay the attorney's fees anyway. But even if they can prove it's your account, they have to prove that they (the CA) has a right to collect every penny of the claim. But you have to dispute it first by denying their allegations through your answer.

Really best to get an attorney for this one.
