Actually I am a Mortgage Broker familiar with WAMU. If they want the 3,200 and nothing less, just have your family member take all the payments WAMU sent back and re-write just one check? If they have sent all the payments to get caught up and WAMU sent them back, then they have the money to send in dont they?
