Anyone have trouble getting rental apartment after BK?

We filed about a year ago, mostly to save our house from going into forclosure, it got us enough time to sell our home and get out O dodge as they say. We moved into an appartment that is owned by a super nice couple, they never checked credit and rented to us because they liked us. We never mentioned BK issue, it never came up. But we gave notice a month or so ago, we need to move to a city to be closer to work, and NO ONE will rent to us! We just saw our credit report for the first time the other day and it has all the charge off's listed. It looks so bad, but we do have great references and a good job situation/reference. Plus it has been a whole year now, we did not think it would cause this many problems! We have small children and we need to find someplace ASAP as other people are moving into our apartment here. Anyone have any experience with this? Any advice?
