Need advice! Debt negotiation

Hello all, In Washington state, over my head in debt (almost 30K), don't want to do bk, looking at debt negotiation. All I'm hoping for is confirmation from someone that this is better for my credit in the long run than doing bk! My main concerns with bad credit are for future employment and future apt. or house rentals. I just don't want to feel like I'm paying something out for nothing if it's going to look just as bad on my credit...
