If you have a WRITTEN committment that you will get the job if you clear up this ONE account, then go ahead. However, if you just have an oral comment from someone in personel (AKA human resources)that your credit is standing in your way of a job, I would be VERY careful. I can understand if you were buying a house, or if you had a judgment filed against you, or had a BK, but hinging a job offer on paying some CA on a debt, (that might be past SOL or uncollectible for other reasons) seems fishy to me. Did they give you the required forms relating to your credit history so you could get a free credit report? If not, then BEWARE, as that is ILLEGAL for them to turn you down for a job based on your credit and NOT give you the proper release. I THINK you are being given a snow job by someone, and it may cost you unneccessary $$ out of your pocket, without your getting the job. When was the last time you paid Citibank directly on this account? What State are you in?
