The creditor can remove it's tradeline from your credit report, even if it's positive. I've had a few disappear from my report, as well. Nothing really major (stuff like Swiss Colony...big deal), but there is nothing in the FCRA that says anyone HAS to keep the positive TL on your report for 10 years, or delete it after 10 years.

Now some CRA's have a "policy" that says they'll delete information after ten years, but I think we're all aware of how often they adhere to their own policies! It's a crap-shoot.

But my point is that you don't want to knowingly mess with stuff in your report that can only help you. If it's showing an open account AND that open account is keeping you from getting a mortgage because the mortgage company considers it available debt, AND deleting it will not send your score plummeting below the threshold for approval, well then...that's a different story.
