If at all possible, consult an attorney! I got a summons last week from a different collection agency. Took it to my attorney and he advised me that they would have to produce a heck of a lot more documentation to have a real case against me. He also advised that if an attorney for the defendant enters the picture, the entire tone of the process changes. Collection attornies want quick, easy victories, and all too often they get them because people allow them to get default judgements. You stand a very good chance of fighting off any lawsuits if you get good legal advice and refuse to let them trample on your rights. Chances are very good that the collection agency doesn't have enough evidence to get anything except a default judgement against you. The attorney for the CA might encourage you to contact them to "make arrangements" but I would strongly advise against this. They are NOT on your side and will do nothing unless it is to their advantage.
