You can give your son a personal PIN code that will bypass the Privacy Manager and allow it to ring, even if his call is coming from an "unknown" phone number or CallerID lists it as "unavailable" or "out of area".

From the folks I know who have it, it only adds about 5 or 6 bucks a month to your bill. I know it's hard to justify an additional expense right now, but I think your peace of mind would make it worth the price.
