This is a debt negotiation outfit from California with a terrible business record. http://www.consumerlegalcenters.com/index.asp BBB.com Report Consumer Legal Centers 320 Pine Avenue Suite 700 Long Beach CA 90802 We rate this company as having an unsatisfactory business performance record based on serious allegations that the company failed to provide services as agreed. This company has a pattern of complaints alleging failure to negotiate debts and failure to perform services as promised. Some complainants state that their credit standing deteriorated after enrollment and that they incurred late charges and in some cases, were sued by their creditors. A few complaintants allege they were instructed not to pay their debt as it would improve the company's ability to negotiate settlement. The company responds to most complaints by disputing allegations and claiming clients are ineligible for refunds as services were performed in accordance with the contract and therefore the fees are earned. Some customers received partial refunds. Others were offered a continuance of services. In a few cases, the company appologized for delays in returning phone calls. Some complaints are closed as unresolved, meaning the complainants are not satisfied with the company's response. We believe, that by provision of the California Credit Services Act, this company is required to register with the California Attorney General. As of our last verification on March 3, 1999, the company was not registered. To verify registration you may call 619-645-2050. Our experience with similar programs has been that debts are seldom negotiated down to lesser amounts and that payments are not made to creditors. Most participants wind up with larger debts, ruined credit and sometimes being compelled to file bankruptcy. There is no guaranty that while debts are being negotiated, creditors will not attempt to collect the debt, report negative information to credit bureaus, or remove negative information once a debt is settled. Generally, the amount of debt forgiven constitutes income. We suggest seeking tax advice.
