State Taxes - Any help

The State of IL says I didn't pay taxes for 1997.

I have no more records from that time but I am certain that I filed (5 years in a row there from same company - taxes were withheld - Now out of business and I can't get proof of withholding).

The IL Dept of revenue sent me a letter last week. It is the first I've heard of this. They say the taxes owed were ~$1500. Now they want ~$5000!.

They are threatening to "Levy" me "without notice" for the money they say I owe (which I don't). There are a bunch of references to IL state laws and such.

I live in Texas now. Can they come after my assets here?

Can they really "levy" me "without notice" without doing any more than sending a nasty letter? (1st class postage - not CRRR)

Just wondering how much time I've got before they try to come and take my possessions.
