Just an opinion. Ultimately, you must decide what is best for you. Bankrupcy is a fresh start. You could be sued, and if they get a judgement against you, it stays for many years (different amount of time in different states) So, if things change in the future, a judgement could be a problem. I was sued just about 2 months before SOL. I filed bk at that time, but I wish I had done it sooner.
As far as an employer checking credit, I don't think a bk is any worse than the chargeoffs, but that is just my opinion too.
