how do you do a CRA dispute properly? by mail or online?

Ive heard 2 opinions. some people say to do your disputes of your credit report ONLINE..........some say to do it BY US MAIL. which one is a better idea? and more importantly, WHY and WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
