No, what they sent in the dunning letter is by no means validation.

I've dealt with these scam scumbags too, over a year ago, and I'm in Nashville. They crossed the line of the law many times in their inane phone messages, so it is definitely a habit with them. I DV'd them and they melted away, never heard from them again.

With validation, you demand that they prove the debt is yours. That includes a complete accounting of the debt, from day one, to prove the alleged balance they are trying to collect and proof in the form of the agreement with your signature on it.

You can find much more info on the whole process at www.creditinfocenter.com. There are sample letters there for you to use. www.creditboards.com is also a good source for validation letter samples.

Once you demand validation they MUST cease all collection efforts until they validate.

I'd pursue the licensing issue with a vengeance. They have no business trying to collect here and the State can penalize them for their actions. TN doesn't have the best consumer protection laws around, but they do get some things right.
