Was this a credit card in your business name?

If it was a personal card for your personal use, and if your business is a Corp., there is no way they can seize any business assets unless they get a judgment against you and seize your stock and liquidate the business.

If, on the other hand, this was a business account, you are NOT protected by the FDCPA.

In any case, you should see a lawyer, as you may be able to access some other programs for businesses affected by 9/11, or at least have a lawyer help you to deal with Amex, or consider BK.

(If you husband had not lost his cool and paid the extra interest for a month or 2 on time, Amex would have reduced the interest)
