Hi,
This was not a business account; we are not a Corp, just a partnerhsip. We investigated getting post 9/11 help and found that the help offered was very small loans which required
a lot of proof and paperwork. ONe of my clients went through the process and after much trouble got a $5000 loan to help him for what turned out to be a long time of no business. He ended up closing his services and still in debt.
When we tried to talk to Amex about the interest they would not budge and when we wanted to resume payment, they would not accept it. I don't think RMA has purchased the account, as their letter and phone calls intimate that they are collecting for a client - Amex.
I am still angry with my husband for loosing his cool. But I also understand the stress he is under from this and other causes. We had made major moves for our small business when 9/11 hit, then we had no business and did the best we could to survive the downturn.
I guess I will wait a week and see what happens. That should be enough time for the RMA in NJersey to get the 1st letter of validation. They have not called today
and we sent out the 1st letter on Monday or Tuesday.(CMRRR) My letter of Validation/C&D stated that we would be willing to discuss the matter with Amex.
I was wondering what would make Amex sue one
person and not another. I had feedback on another
forum from someone with a $15K debt who tried to pay the CA, could not keep up the payments, then
chose food for the family and instead of payments.
They said that they are now approaching the end of SOL. They never heard from Amex again. Said their
CRA posted the debt as paid. Wow.
Thank you for your advice. :-)
