Can you explain further what you mean by "steps to protect yourself"? What can I do? Close my bank account? Does Tx force you to disclose ALL bank accounts or is the freeze only put on the one(s) the creditor knows about? Also, are 401k, IRA, or Roth IRA's available to creditors?
