I don't see how you would be in contempt if you simply can't pay, which is probably why they sued you in the first place; you can't get blood out of a turnip. Just sounds like an idle threat to me. However, if they were to order you to a debtors examination and you don't show up and/or lie to them about your assets, then you could be in contempt of court. Right now, I wouldn't be worried about contempt of court; what I would be worried about would be them taking your wages/assets. You're in a precarious siutation right now; they are now a "Judgement Creditor" with a lot more legal authority than an unsecured creditor. I suggest your seriously consider bankruptcy at this point; if you have a lot of assets, you may want to consider chapter 13. Either way, you need legal help at this point, unless you don't care about your wages garnished, and/or assets seized. If you're not working and/or have no assets, now may be the best time to declare chapter 7 BK, get the judgement vacated, and move on with your life with a fresh start, though you'll need to rebuild your credit. Don't let your creditors ruin your life. Again, talk to a good lawyer in your area.
