Why would First USA sell your $10,000 worth of charge offs for $300 knowing you had a house they could attach?

Answer,
They are a legitimate company, and they knew they had no legal case against you as an AU.

Also, you aren't fully understanding pennies on the dollar garbage collectors. Just because they buy the accounts for pennies doesn't mean they will settle for pennies. The vast majority of the people never pay these trash collecting scammers anything. They have to get substantial settlements from the few that respond to their scams to turn a profit. They cannot issue 1099c's because the OC already took the tax deduction. If you pay anything, you will have self-verified the debt. Therefore, you will have no protection for when they sell the remaining balance to a different collection agency which will sue you again, since you already responded and paid the first one (Ever hear about feeding stray dogs? Or in this case feeding cockroaches)

Spend the $2000 on a lawyer who'll make them go away for good. You are not responsible as an AU which is why your Original Creditor never sued you in the first place.
