The alleged debt is probably past the SOL in your state, and their generous offer of a credit card would re-start the SOL on both reporting the account to the credit bureaus and for collecting on it. I'm glad you didn't fall for this. Seems a lot of places are making offers like this on debts they can't legally collect or report any other way.
